I have been working with private companies since earning my Chartered Accountant designation in 1986, so for more than 30 years. During that period, I have worked largely in public practice with local, regional, and international firms in positions ranging from Associate to Partner. I have also spent 2 years as Controller for a regional trucking company which provided invaluable experience in operations.
Lamming accounting and Tax (previously Barry Lamming Professional Corporation) has been in the business of providing support to individuals and private companies since 2005.
How I work
I have come to realize that the most rewarding work for me, and I believe where I can add the most value for clients, is where I work directly with the owner or manager of a private business.
For some clients, this means checking the completeness of their entries and reconciliations and preparing financial statements and tax returns. For others it means entering all the transactions and preparing the reconciliations and then preparing the financial statements and tax returns. Either works for me. I believe this approach provides me with enough information to assist with the more important issues of profitability ratios, cash flows, financial position, and long term strategic and tax planning.
With business environments expanding and becoming more complicated every year, it is difficult for anyone to keep up on all topics that seem to arise when assisting private companies. I believe it is critical to not only know and acknowledge what you may need help with, but to have strategic partnerships in place to assist when required. I have worked hard to establish such partnerships over the years.
In short, my aim is to provide personal service on a timely and cost effective basis.
